12 to 18 Months Prior To Wedding Date:

  Announce the Engagement to family and friends.
  Set Wedding Date.
  Contact your local newspaper to announce your engagement.
  Discuss what type of wedding service & reception you both want   (Very Formal, Formal, Semi-Formal, Casual or Informal, Fancy Dress).
  Discuss the colour scheme for the wedding.
  Ask close friends and/or relations to be part of the bridal party      (Matron Of Honour, Best Man, Bridesmaids, Groomsmen, Etc). 
  Draw up potential guests list.
  Important - Inform out-of-town guests well in advance so that they can make arrangements as soon as possible.  
  Set Wedding Budget.
  Inquire with Church/Marriage Celebrant & Reception Venues/Caterers.
  Book Church/Marriage Celebrant & Reception Venue/Caterer   (Some Popular Venues are booked out at least 12 months in advance). 
  Inquire and book the entertainment for your Engagement Party.
  Have Engagement Party.

 

6 to 12 Months Prior:

  Decide on the Wedding Gown, Suits, Bridesmaids Outfits and accessories for all.
  Purchase/Order Wedding Rings.
  Discuss honeymoon destinations.
  Consider bridal suite for wedding night and book.
  Consider your Photographer and/or Video Operator.
  Discuss Transportation and book  (The more popular wedding vehicles are booked out at least 6 months in advance).
  Consider the floral arrangements for the Service, Reception, Bride, Groom, Bridal Party and families.
  Discuss what types of entertainment you both want for the service and reception. 

 

3 to 6 Months Prior:

  Finalise the guest list.
  If out-of-town guests are attending, organise local transport to and from the service/reception and accommodation for them.
  Select the stationery and order/have them printed. (remember thank you notes).
  Send out the invitations - RSVP at least 30 days prior.
  Organise a Gift List or Bridal Registry (eg: Grace Bros, David Jones, etc).
  Check with the Minister, Priest or Celebrant about required documents for marriage.
  Visit with your Minister, Priest or Celebrant to complete and lodge a Notice of Intended Marriage form (remember to take your documents with you). The Notice of Intended Marriage must be lodged with your "celebrant" no more than 6 months and no less than 1 month and 1 day prior to your intended date of marriage.
  Ask a family member/relation or a close friend if they would like to read a special reading at the ceremony. 
  Confirm honeymoon reservations, send deposits and check if travel documents are required (eg Passports, visa, etc).
  Confirm the entertainment for both the service and reception and send deposits. (ensure you receive a written confirmation).
  Confirm bookings for your Photographer and/or Video operator and send deposits. (ensure you receive a written confirmation).
  Discuss the style of your wedding cake.
  Discuss who will be performing as M.C. (Master Of Ceremonies) - (Some wedding reception venues provide this service or for a more personal touch, ask a family member or friend). 

 

1 to 3 Months Prior:

  Arrange for fittings of gowns and suits and set dates for final fittings.
  Select a hairdresser and makeup artist. Book for hair and makeup trials.
  Confirm floral arrangements with your florist. (ensure you receive something in writing).
  Finalise your menu with the Reception Venue or Caterer.
  Give preliminary numbers to Reception Venue or Caterer.
  Look at seating plans.
  Finalise payment with your Church/Celebrant.
  Arrange for a suitable time for the makeup artist.
  Pick up the wedding rings.
  Organise bucks party and hens night out.
  Select gifts for each other.
  Select gifts for bridal party and parents.
  Order Wedding cake.
  Purchase anything you both require for the honeymoon.
  Confirm/choose Master of ceremonies.
  Select ceremony and reception music.
  If you have pets, organise family, friend or neighbour to look after them while you both are on your honeymoon

 

3 Weeks Prior:

  Pick up the Bridal Gown, Bridesmaids Gowns and accessories. e.g. (shoes, pantyhose, lingerie, hair accessories, garter, pillow for rings etc) - (3 x b's Something Blue, Brought and Borrowed)
  Book restaurant for rehearsal dinner. 
  Inform the bridal party the date of the rehearsal/dinner.
  Confirm with the bridal party the addresses that they are to be dressed at.
  Follow up with the guests that have not responded with RSVP's. 
  Arrange transport for leaving the reception (if not already organised).
  Practice your wedding vows.

 

2 Weeks Prior:

  Finalise numbers with the Reception Venue/Caterer.
  Write your seating plans and place cards.
  Finalise your seating arrangements with the Reception Venue/Caterer.
  Have the bucks party and hens night out.
  Organise your mail to be held at the post office or have someone collect it for you if you plan to be away for more than a week on your honeymoon.

 

7 Days Prior:

  Confirm the hairdresser.
  Groom should get a haircut.
  Double check honeymoon arrangements.
  Pack for honeymoon.
  If you have pets, reconfirm with the person that they are still OK with looking after them.  
  Practice your wedding vows.

 

3 Days Prior:

  Pick up the suits.
  Purchase travellers checks if leaving the country for your honeymoon
  Rehearsals and dinner for bridal party.
  Confirm with the members of the bridal party what you would like them to do on the day of the wedding. 
  Organise someone to pick up the cake.
  Organise someone to pick up the flowers.
  Organise someone to transport the wedding accessories.
  Organise someone to transport the wedding gifts after the reception.
  Organise someone to return any hires.
  Arrange refreshments for the bridal party while dressing

 

24 to 48 Hours Prior:

  Confirm final times with makeup artist, photographer, car hire and video operator.
  Confirm the bridal suite and arrival times.
  Confirm flowers and pickup times.
  Pack the car for the honeymoon.
  Review schedule with wedding party.
  Practice your wedding vows.
  Have a early night.

 

The Wedding Day:

  Arrive early to the hairdressers.
  pick up the cake.
  pick up the flowers.
  Have the payment envelopes ready for the Best Man.
  Check that the Best Man has the rings.
